Topic: District’s dire need for school bus drivers!
The PSD has contracted with private vendors like BJ School Buses and now Foreman’s, to provide student transportation for many years. However, that service is in jeopardy as the contracted company, Foreman’s Bus Service, is without enough people to put in the driver’s seat to run the five routes. If there is nobody to drive the bus, the district is unable to provide the means to get students to school.
The retired generation who have graciously filled those seats for many years are transitioning out of the seats. Foreman’s and the PSD need YOUR HELP! If the patrons of the PSD want the district to provide student transportation, it will need people to step up and fill those roles; otherwise, the service, which is a privilege, not a right that the district must provide, will be discontinued due to the lack of human resources.
This is a scenario that the district or the bus company does not want to happen, but will need to be considered if drivers cannot be found. The commitment is 171 days per year, roughly one hour of drive time on each AM/PM route. Anyone willing can drive just AM, PM, or both with flexibility for one to five days per week. Whatever would work for them.
Foreman’s and the PSD will work with anyone to become certified and assist on days that work for them. The pay is $55.00 per route or $110.00 per day for both AM and PM. A $500.00 signing bonus, paid health physical, training, and testing. Please get in touch with the Foreman bus manager for the PSD if you can assist. The PSD can only educate students who can attend. Please consider how you or someone you know could help transport students to school. Thanks.
